Frozen Shoulder

Robert L Welch, M.D.
If you have severe stiffness of the shoulder, you could be suffering from a “frozen shoulder.” It is estimated that two to three per cent of adults have symptoms of a frozen shoulder. It is most frequently seen between the ages of 40 to 70. People with diabetes are more prone to this condition. This painful condition may be secondary to trauma but often occurs without injury. Prolonged immobilization following an injury may be a factor. The mainstay of treatment is aggressive physical therapy. If pain and stiffness do not improve with therapy, surgery may be considered. |
